Summer use of Deer Defeat

Early spring is a very important time to protect your perennials just peeking out of the ground. We keep repeating the importance of the early spraying. We hope you have done just that. By spraying the plants early in the spring or starting to spray as soon as you have planted them you are actually training the deer to stay away from your plants. You will still see the deer in your yard if this is what you like but they will not be munching on any of your sprayed flowers or vegetables. However, if you have not started spraying early in the spring and the deer and rabbits have already had a taste of your beautiful flowers you will have to work much harder to keep them away. If you have just started spraying, repeat the application at least once a week for three consecutive weeks and then once per month. If your flowers are still growing make sure you follow the same procedure as instructed on the back label, spray every 6 or 7 inches of new growth. Once the flowers are mature repeat the spraying once per month.

Use the same procedure for newly planted annuals. Spray them as soon you are done planting or you might not find them the next morning. During the growing season spray every 6 or 7 inches of new growth. Once the flowers are mature repeat the spraying once per month.

When spraying, for best results, please make sure there is no wind and no rain in the forecast for the next 4 hours. The repellent will dry odorless in 15 to 20 minutes but it will take a few hours to fully set.

Always start by giving a good shake to the Deer Defeat bottle. If you use a commercial sprayer do the same, shake the sprayer, adjust the nozzle to a mist and begin spraying. Make sure you see droplets on the leaves. There is no need to saturate the plants. You will not need to re-apply the repellent after rain fall. For any budding flowers with long stems like hostas and lilies make sure to spray the buds as they form. Just follow these simple steps and you will enjoy beautiful flowers the entire season.

In warmer areas, you will be surprised how easily you will be able to grow and maintain beautiful colors all year long.

Always begin by shaking the repellent well. If your garden is small apply liberally to the grass 2 ft. wide along the perimeter of the garden. If you mow make sure to re spray. If you have a larger garden you can spray the vegetables and fruit trees up to the flowering stage. Once your plants start flowering just spray the perimeter of the garden once per month or after moving. If your fruit trees are not bearing fruits spray the trees directly. The repellent will protect your vegetables and fruit trees as well as nourish your plants.

Our suggestion:

When you purchase the 16 oz Concentrate please mix the entire batch at once to achieve the perfect ratio for a gallon of repellent. 16 oz is part of a gallon, just use any empty gallon well rinsed (such as milk, juice or water gallon) pour the concentrate in the gallon and fill it with water. Clearly mark the container with permanent pen. The repellent will keep for a long period in this form. Shake the entire gallon of repellent well before filling your hand sprayer. Store repellent between 40 F and 90 F. Keep away from children.

Happy gardening! Enjoy the sun, heat, flowers….Have a wonderful and successful season!
